best-winter-essential-oils.jpg

This will be just the first of many posts I do about essential oils because I love and use them on a daily basis. Quality essential oils are a natural, accessible, and really powerful tool for supporting your health which explains why they've become so popular over the years. I've tried many different brands and DoTerra is my favorite and what I'll be featuring here. I'm highlighting the best essential oils for the winter because there are always bugs are going around this time of year and many of us are under more stress than usual due to the holidays. I broke my favorites down into categories to make it easy to find what you might need/be most interested in right now: stress relief, holiday scents, and immune support. If you're interested in trying any of the oils or simply need to re-up you can order HERE from my Doterra Wellness Advocate page.

Stress Relief

How To: Diffuse or dilute and apply to the wrists and/or neck

Serenity blend

Vetiver

Frankincense

Bergamot

Rose

Cedarwood

Diffusing is my favorite method for stress relief. There is actually evidence that inhaling oils has a positive effect on the limbic system which helps control emotional responses, which could explain why their ability to impact our mood.

Holiday Scents

How To: Diffuse in a nebulizer to fill the room. Experiment with mixing a few drops of something earthy or woodsy with a couple drops of spicy/sweet/citrusy oils. You pretty much can't go wrong with that formula and it's much healthier than synthetically fragranced candles!

Peppermint

Fir

Cedarwood

Ginger

Holiday joy

Cypress

Cinnamon

Wild Orange

Immune Support

How To: Diffuse of dilute and apply topically to the wrists, lymph nodes, chest, or bottoms of the feet. Frankincense and Breathe are good options to rub on the chest (diluted of course) to help fight colds and congestion. Oregano is a powerful antibacterial option that I gargle with if I have a sore throat. If you do this use VERY little, Oregano oil is spicy!

OnGuard blend

Eucalyptus

Melaleuca

Oregano

Frankincense

Breathe Blend

Essential oils are able to absorb though the skin into the bloodstream, and the plant components in the oils actually support the body's natural defenses at a cellular level. If you are applying oils topically always be to sure to dilute them with a carrier oil, the oils by themselves are very potent so a little goes a long way!
