5 Things Keeping Me Inspired Right Now
Honest moment: I've been dealing with a lot of change in my personal life recently and it has had me in survival mode over the past few weeks. As a result, I haven't felt like I had much that was worth sharing on the blog. A few months ago I may have forced it for the sake of "content", however it's become increasingly important to me that whatever I post is authentic, helpful, and inspired. Since I haven't been feeling super full of ideas myself I've made a point to turn seek inspiration elsewhere to lend fresh perspectives that will help me stay balanced, keep my mindset strong, and get some new ideas flowing. Here are the things that have been inspiring me lately:
Power Thoughts Devotional by Joyce Meyer
Joyce Meyer (or Auntie Joyce as I like to call her) gets me together every time! I've been reading her Power Thoughts devotional before I start my work day to get my mind fixed not only on the positive, but more importantly on God. Each devotional has a little "mantra" for the day that I often write on a sticky or on the top of my to-do list to keep a healthy mindset throughout the day. Today's scripture was one of my favorites, Proverbs 3:5 (paraphrased: "Trust God with all your heart and mind and lean not on your own insight or understanding") and the accompanying mantra was "I trust God with all my heart and all my mind".
Love Is... TV show on OWN
Ok this is probably corny but I am LOVING this TV show on OWN. It's created and inspired by the love story of powerhouse Hollywood couple writer/directors Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil. I usually watch it with my husband so it sparks great conversations about love, relationships, and navigating both while carving out your career in your late twenties/early thirties. Beyond watching the show itself I've enjoyed listening to interviews and watching behind the scenes clips detailing Mara Brock Akil's creative process in telling their story in a way that was truthful and honest but also translated well to the screen. Not to mention, between the unfolding love story and comedic moments it provides a nice little escape for the mind. Love and laughter are the best medicines right?
Myleik Teele's "My Taught You" podcast
Entrepreneur and founder of subscription beauty box Curl Box Myleik Teele is another favorite who get's me together! In my head Myleik is equal parts successful career mentor and girlfriend who you can count on to impart wisdom and lovingly tell it like it is. I've been listening to recent episodes as well as older episodes from 2016 and 2017. Most recently I've enjoyed listening to her favorite books episode and her interview with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford about starting therapy. The thoughtful advice and stories of other successful women that are shared motivate and encourage me.
Dreams of a Beach Vacation
Taking time off is so necessary and I'm learning that not only the time but also location matters for me. A change of scenery lends a new perspective that allows me to get focused and opens my mind up to new ideas. I'm planning on visiting Negril, Jamaica with my husband in the Fall and remembering that a rejuvenating break is on the horizon keeps me pressing forward even on the tiring days!
My Husband
I'm so blessed to have a partner who supports my endeavors in entrepreneurship and in general doing whatever I need to be my best self. However, it's his commitment to being his personal best inspires me more than he knows. I have noticed his dedication in his prayer life recently more than ever before and it's inspired me to follow suit by making sure I carve out the time to give thanks and focus on what matters most before I get my day started.
Things are starting to settle on my end and I'm feeling more inspired to share some new posts soon. In the meantime I'd love to know:
